Bernie a pris sa retraite de Fraser Papers en 2000, où il a travaillé comme agent de sécurité pendant de nombreuses années. Il a été commandant et membre à vie du poste 147 de la Légion américaine de Madawaska. Il était communiant de la paroisse Saint-Gérard et membre du troisième degré des Chevaliers de Colomb, conseil n° 8414 de Grand Isle. **** He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in Italy and Germany as a helicopter crew chief. Upon his return to Grand Isle in 1964, he joined the National Guards in Fort Kent and was with them for 37 years. Bernie retired from Fraser Papers in 2000 where he worked as a security guard for many years. He was a past commander and a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 147 of Madawaska. He was a communicant of St. Gerard Parish and a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #8414 of Grand Isle.
