Note

About 1888, the North Shore community of Esquimo Point ( since about 1947 known as The Harbor of St. Peter ), was devistated by a fire. Itburned most of the buildings and all the communities winter foodsupplies.

It was at this time that a missionary priest journied byboat to the area to re-locate any serviving members of the community.

The Bertrand III DERASPE (Deraps) family was one to accept this kindjesture of re-location.

The family was disembarked, with otherfamilies at Rimouski, Quebec, Canada ( On the South Shore of the St.Lawrence River, about half way between Quebec City and the tip of theGaspe Peninsula ).

The family lived at St. Theophile and at St. Arsenefor a couple of years, but found little work to sustain their needs.

They then emigrated ( illegally ) to the Waterville / Winslow area ofMaine, U.S.A. in 1890.

They lived for a time on what was then BaySt.(along the Kennebec river bank) in Winslow.
