Doug was a veteran of the Second World War.

After completing his training at the Royal Military College, he was posted in England with the 406 Lynx Squadron.

While overseas he served as an Airborne Intercept Radar Technician. Upon his return from Europe, he was employed by the federal government to construct homes for members of the Elsipogtog First Nation.

He then worked as a carpenter for the Department of National Defense (#5 Supply Depot) until he retired in 1980 with 20 years’ service.
