He attended Saint Mary's Boys' School and Aquinas Common School, and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and St. John Vianney Church, Lower Sackville.

He served in the RCAF from 1946-51. In 1956 he joined the Army Artillery Band until 1969.

This was the beginning of his professional music career. In the early 1960s he had his own dance band, 'The Orientals', with the late Donald Campbell.

He played with the Don Warner Orchestra and the Glen Sarty Orchestra.

From 1969-79 he was with the Stadacona Band.

He sang bass and was also active in public relations for the Artillery Band.

He taught summer music camps for young children.

He studied at the Conservatory of Music and studied English Literature at Saint Mary's University.

Due to his career, he travelled extensively throughout Canada, the United States and Europe and participated in the International Tatoos.1
