He completed his basic training at Aldershot in Nova Scotia and advanced training at Camp Borden in Ontario.

He went overseas on June 10, 1940 arriving in the United Kingdom June 22.

He was taken on strength with the West Nova Scotia Regiment on November 7, 1941.

He was granted permission to marry Private Joan Casson (W/144645) on April 15, 1943, who was serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Army (ATS).

The marriage was held April 22 of the same year in her hometown of Marsh, Lancaster, England.

He departed the United Kingdom on June 16, 1943 disembarking in North Africa July 10.

Andrew took part in the Sicily Landings in July of 1943.

He was killed in action August 2 and was buried the following day at the Agira Canadian War Cemetery in Sicily.
