Everyone will remember him as a man who remained active to the very end, making daily visits to his office at les Plastiques Downeast Plastics where he was President.

In 2007, Joe Landry celebrated 60 years of entrepreneurship in the fishing sector, having initially been a partner in the lobster processing firm Cape Bald Packers then sole owner since 1958. His determination, his independence and his sound busin

ess sense were such that by the 1990s, Cape Bald Packers had become one of the major lobster packing companies in the Maritimes.

Wise in the ways of business, Joe launched a new venture in 1982, expanding into polystyrene products for the aquaculture industry, with les Plastiques Downeast Plastics. At the dawn of the 21st century, the company is leading the sector in Easter

n Canada.

Joe Landry’s lengthy career as a business leader in the fishing industry is unique in the Maritimes. His success was beneficial to the economy of Cap-Pelé, as well as that of the region and the Maritimes. His name is well-known not only in the fis

hery regions on the eastern seaboard in Canada and the United States, and on the international seafood markets, but also in a number of rural areas in the Maritimes.

On February 1996, Joe was called to the Canadian Senate. He is the first lobster packer ever to receive this nomination in Canada. Among his many distinctions he was the recipient of the 2001 Ernst & Young Atlantic Entrepreneur of the Year Trophy

; in 1999, the Province of New Brunswick honoured him with its Excellence Award in recognition of his practice of employing individuals with various disabilities, and in 1983 the Commission économique du Sud-Est awarded its Certificate of Meri

t to Cape Bald Packers.
