Note		La famille déménage dans le Maine en 1922. En 1935, Ernest épouse Helen Pauline Hall à Calais. Au lycée, Ernie a travaillé pour Albert Potter où il a acquis une précieuse expérience en commerce et en mécanique. Il a travaillé pour St. Croix Paper Co. jusqu'en 1942, date à laquelle il part travailler dans les chantiers navals de Portland pendant la guerre. Après la guerre, ils sont retournés au moulin de Baileyville en tant que maçon et plus tard en tant que maçon en chef. En 1945, Ernest s'intéresse au mouvement syndical et est élu président de la section locale 27 du Woodland Central Labour Union et délégué au Conseil du travail de l'AFL Maine. Plus tard, il a été élu au comité exécutif du conseil et a fait partie du comité de fusion avec le conseil de l'AFL-CIO. Il a participé activement à la promotion du 50e anniversaire de Woodland et a écrit un livre commémorant cet anniversaire. The family moved to Maine in 1922. In 1935, Ernest married Helen Pauline Hall in Calais. During high school, Ernie worked for Albert Potter where he gained valuable business and mechanical experience. He worked for St. Croix Paper Co. until 1942, when he left to work in the ship yards in Portland during the war. After the war, they returned to the mill in Baileyville as a mason and later as the Head Mason. In 1945, Ernest became interested in the union movement and was elected president of Local #27, Woodland Central Labor Union, and delegate to the AFL Maine Labor Council. Later, he was elected to the executive committee of the council and was on the merger committee with the AFL-CIO Council. He was active in promoting the 50th Anniversary of Woodland and wrote a book commemorating the anniversary.
