A BAD FISHING TRIP

Clement was Thirty Four years old when he lost his two companions in the icy waters of the Bay of Chaleur.

It was december when the three men walked off shore in front of the Camp Chaleur, in Charlo, to set their nets for smelts. Arthur McNair owned the nets while Fred Roy and Clement Guitard went out to give him a hand.

A wet easterly snow storm came up and when they started in to shore, they could not see where they were going. They all went through the drift ice which had slush on top. Fred Roy drowned first - Mcnair pushed one of

Clement's legs up out of the ice, he then came up once and disappeared under water.

Clement crawled on his stomach for some distance and then got safely back to shore. Being the only survivor of that trajedy, he will probably never be able to forget what happened, on that day, to his two best friends.

From 1926 to 1941, Clement worked as a Barber in Campbellton. He then moved to Dalhousie where he opened a Barber shop and a small variety store on Renfrew St. which he operated with the help of his wife until 1980,
