He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. He was self-employed and operated Fred Bass Marine Contractor. Later, he became a self-employed general contractor and builder and retired as the Sexton of St. Joseph Church.

Mr. Bastarache was a World War II Army veteran and held the rank of tech 5th grade. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the EAME Theater Medal with four bronze service stars.

Mr. Bastarache was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Stang, Council 4532; and the Bishop Cassidy 4th Degree Assembly. He was a member of the 6th Bristol Social Club and a Veterans of Foreign War Poirier, Post 3260 Lifetime Member.

He also belonged to the American Legion, Post 265.
