Après avoir complété ses études secondaires à Shippagan, elle a obtenu un baccalauréat en travail social de l'Université de Monc­ton, puis une maîtrise de l'Uni­versité Dalhousie, à Halifax. Elle a débuté sa carrière comme travailleuse social

e à l'Hôpital de Bathurst, pour ensuite la poursuivre à l'hôpital Victoria General de Halifax, avant de revenir au Nouveau-Brunswick, où elle a travaillé à l'Hôpital Dr. Everett Chalmers, puis au Centre de réadaptation Stan Cassidy, à Fredericton.

Le 14 avril 2008, elle a joint l'équipe du Bureau de l'ombudsman et du défenseur des enfants et de la jeunesse du Nouveau-Brunswick, comme enquêteuse/ travailleuse sociale, travail auquel elle s'est donnée jusqu'au déclen­chement de sa maladie

, au début de 2010.
