Armie worked in New Waterford area coal mines for 25 years, finishing as safety inspector of several mines in 1959. Subsequently, he worked as an accountant in Pasadena, California, as comptroller for the New Waterford Hospital, and as an audito r and district manager for Customs and Excise Canada in Amherst, N.S. and Moncton, N.B. After retirement Armie and Leona spent over 20 winters in Clearwater, Florida as well as enjoying summers on the Mira in Cape Breton, Jacksons Point in Amherst, N.S. and in Shediac, N.B. Armie completed his early education at St. Annes College at Church Point, N.S. Through later study he earned designations as a mine manager and inspector. Armie spent several years teaching mathematics at New Waterfords Night School to assist fe llow miners and their families to get ahead in life. He was awarded his professional designation as a Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA CMA) in 1960-61. |
