Paul was raised in Saint Johns South End where he attended Saint John the Baptist School, graduating from St. Malachys Memorial High School in 1963. He attended Saint Josephs College and graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1969 wi th his BA degree. He attended Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax attaining his Bachelor of Theology and graduated from the Maritime School of Social Work (now Dalhousie University) attaining his Masters in Social Work in 1971. Paul later attended Lava l University in Quebec where he studied in French. As a Priest, Paul served in many parishes throughout the Saint John Diocese and served as Padre/Captain in the Canadian Armed Forces stationed at CFB Val Cartier where he was instrumental in found ing the Addiction Treatment Center, CFB Calgary, CFB Edmonton and CFB Halifax. Paul worked with the Department of Social Services as Child Protection Officer in Saint John. He did a field placement at the Halifax Infirmary, and worked as the Chie f Social Worker at the Chatham Mental Health Center. He also worked for many years as a consultant for the Fredericton Mental Health Centre and the Renous prison. He was the founder and first Managing Director of Family Enrichment and Counsellin g Services with branches in Fredericton, Moncton and Newcastle. He commenced the development of Marriage Encounter New Brunswick, was the founding chairman of The New Brunswick Child Welfare Association and was the New Brunswick representativ e at the National level. He was a lecturer at St. Thomas University teaching Social Development. At the time of his death, he was serving on the Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and was a member in good standin g with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers. Paul established his private practice of Paul Leger and Associates where he worked as a bilingual therapist and consultant in his offices in Saint John, Rothesay and Fredericton doing individ ual and couple therapy and forensic work for Family Courts throughout the province. In this capacity, he was one of the therapists/consultants during the Swiss Air disaster in 1998. |
