He attended Sacred Heart Convent School in Grand Falls where he completed grade eight before going to Sacred Heart College in Bathurst for grade nine. In 1939 Emmett graduated from St Joseph College, Memramcook, NB, after completing the requireme nts for High School and two years of Liberal Arts. All of Emmett's primary and secondary education was delivered in French and English resulting in a fully bilingual capacity all of his life. Following graduation from St. Joseph's, Emmett attended St. Francis Xavier University where he completed a BSc in Pre-Engineering in 1945. In the fall he began his Engineering education at the Nova Scotia Technical College but ill health later th at winter prevented him from returning to his studies. After some consideration of the direction of his education, Emmett participated in a program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in High Voltage Engineering and was hired by th e New Brunswick Electric Power Commission in Grand Falls in 1946. He continued in his employment with the NBEPC and in 1952 qualified for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick and was awarded the Iron Ring . In 1968-1969 Emmett attended and completed an eight month course at the General Electric Power Systems Engineering School in Schenectady, New York. He continued in his work with the NBEPC until retirement in 1980. Throughout his career he wa s active with the I.A.E.E. and the Canadian Association of Electrical Engineers where he served as committee chair in various phases of the industry and authored several papers. |
