Il était fier de ses compétences en menuiserie et était le mentor de nombreux jeunes menuisiers prometteurs, en particulier de son petit-fils Dicky.

Il a contribué à sauver la fondation de la chapelle commémorative Ritchie au cimetière de Yarmouth Mountain, après avoir restauré ce bâtiment et préservé son existence.

À sa retraite, il a remis à neuf l'école d'Abram's River et l'a fait inscrire comme bien patrimonial.

Il a également travaillé à la reconstruction du quai de la rivière Abram.He worked in the construction industry for 47 years in the Maritimes and in the United States.

He was proud of his carpentry skills and was a mentor to many young up-and-coming carpenters, especially to his grandson Dicky.

He was instrumental in saving the foundation of Ritchie Memorial Chapel in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery, having restored this building and preserved its existence.

In his retirement, he refurbished the Abram's River schoolhouse and had it listed as a heritage property.

He also worked to rebuild the Abram's River wharf.
