Until his retirement, he was employed as Food Services Manager at the Minto Hospital. He was a life member of the New Brunswick Wildlife Federation, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.12, Minto and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3202, Minto

. Lionel had been involved with hunter education for over 40 years and was also a member of the NB Naturalist Association. He was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church.
