His studies began at St. Vincent’s Catholic High School and extended to St. Joseph’s University where he received a BA in Philosophy and Theology in Latin. After attending the Seminary in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the Holy Cross for two year

s in Massachusetts, he attended St. Francis Xavier where he received a BSC in pre-med studies. He went on to Ottawa U. Med School receiving his medical degree in 1953.

After practicing medicine in Blackville, NB for two years he did a four year residency in surgery at Sister of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY, returning to Saint John to practice in the town of his birth. He was a volunteer medical officer wit

h the Canadian Army. He accepted a position with the Canadian National Health and Welfare Services in Workman’s Compensation and eventually transferred to the foreign service branch serving in Trinidad, West Indies and in Europe, Paris and Rome

. He returned to Toronto where he served in the Civil Aviation Medicine branch until retirement from government service.

In 1979 he moved to Texas and continued his love of helping people through his practice of general medicine and surgery in Van Alstyne. He joined the medical staff of the Wilson and Jones Hospital in Sherman and was medical director of Hilltop Hav

en nursing home in Gunter and Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Van Alstyne until his retirement in 2000.

He was a member of the Texas Medical Association, Grayson County Medical Society, Sera Club, Knights of Columbus and was a charter member of the Rotary Club at Hurricane Creek. Donald was amongst the First Families who were instrumental in buildin

g the Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne. He was an avid reader, lover of music, enjoyed working with his ham radio and also enjoyed travelling the world.
