Lawny worked as a papermaker at the former Consolidated Bathurst Pulp & Paper Mill (subsequently Smurfit-Stone) from which he retired, after 38 years of service, in 1988. He was also a proud member of the Quarter Century Club, CEP Local 120.

Married to Vi for 65 happy years, they raised two wonderful children, Nancy and Lawney Jr. They established their home in South Bathurst, a community he was proud to be a part of and were the first couple married in South Bathurst’s Saint Theres

a Roman Catholic Church. Lawny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle to his family. He loved to spend time with his loved ones, playing cards, preparing and "eating" many meals which were enjoyed by all with muc

h laughter and story-telling. He and Vi (Pet) especially enjoyed their morning coffee and breakfasts with many of the family in attendance. He lived for his family and never dreamed he would see the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Jasmine

. He was so proud of his grandchildren, always giving wise advice and support to each.

He was an avid car and motorbike enthusiast, and while dating the love of his life, Vi, they enjoyed many long rides on his Harley Davidson. In their early years, they thoroughly enjoyed taking the children, then grandchildren along with them tent

ing and trailering all over Eastern Canada. It would be no surprise to find Lawny and Vi travelling across North America in their Blue Ford F150 on another adventure. Also, Lawny and Vi were active and proud members of the Senior’s Mixed Bowlin

g League, playing on The "C" Team. Boating and waterskiing (which he was very good at) were special favourites of his. He also loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the Montreal Canadians (when they were winning). Lawny was an accomplished coo
