Léopold, like many Maritimers, left Canada in 1964 and headed to Massachusetts with his bride in search of work.

He mastered his carpentry skills in Waltham, MA, settled into married life, had four children and surrounded himself with family and friends both old and new.

In 1976, he moved his family back to his hometown, St. Louis de Kent NB, where he continued working in carpentry and returned to the family tradition of commercial fisheries, which he embraced until his retirement.
